Round 8 2008 GPS Rugby Fixtures

ADDED SUNDAY 27/07/2008

Added Sunday 27/07/2008.

Nudgee came and conquered almost everything in their path,  not sure how many games TGS won.  despite playing some spirited and courageous rugby in some games that I saw,  Nudgee was just far too powerful across the board on the day.

In the First XV,  TGS actually had the better of the first 25 minutes,  and really took it to Nudgee with some aggressive rugby,  and it is the old story,  if they could have scored on one of their many visits and stays in the Nudgee Red Zone,  perhaps they go on and Nudgee falter a little bit.  TGS probably finished a little stronger too,  but the patch in the middle sunk them.

Tomorrow,  Nudgee travel to Toowoomba to take on TGS,  and this will be the game that tells us all if Nudgee are good enough to get the chocolates,  or if TGS,  the trip and the weather will be good enough to have Nudgee share the chocolates with BSHS.  Nudgee have ground their wins out all year with an uncompromising pack of tough guys,  and in normal circumstances,  I would pick them to put 50 points on TGS.  However,  they generally don't travel well,  and the weather looks like being a great equalizer,  ground will be soggy and heavy and it could be awesomely and refreshingly brisk.  Plenty said from people up here this week about how to stop Nudgee,  not many of them have a clue what they are talking about.  I am hearing claptrap about shutting down their wingers,  couple of other blokes would worry me,  Teddie Postal will have a big point to prove after the nationals,  and he is just the composed sort of character to prove that point.  The big hitting Waita Setu is working into some form,  and a schoolboy front row over 300 kilos is not to be sneezed at.  And no one,  not a single person has mentioned Stef Hunt,  the silken skilled,  quietly spoken humble young bloke who will be playing at inside centre.  While TGS are watching the wingers,  the chances are Stef will be ripping them apart a couple of channels in field.  I am looking forward to the game.  It will be a very perplexing contest.
