GT VS TSS, at

TSS v GT (at
Tennyson)
After heavy rain GT officials inspected the grounds at 6.15am and declared
the games would proceed - all fields were very "heavy" but remarkably well
drained and ready to play. No rain was experienced during play.
16A TSS 27 def GT 3
The TSS team came ready to play and this GT team (supposedly) had only been
beaten once since the under 13's - over some 3 seasons. The first half was
very even and I think 5 to 3 in favour of TSS. TSS's forwards must have been
disappointed with the line-out throws with 3 consecutive throws going astray
and to the opposition. This was at a crucial period of the game and on the
GT line. Coach Evans was obviously distraught and surely some change needs
to be made in this area.
The second half saw TSS finally put it together. The backline started to
perform and young Corbin was making incisive forays into GT territory with
devastating results. Again, winger Lindsay Crook scored tries (2, I think)
and has gained such a level of confidence that he he the stand - out back in
the competition to date. He is fast and quite big for a 16's boy and seems
to be prepared to chase any opportunity that presents itself. Young No. 10
Aiden played solidly and was able to feed the outside backs on most
occasions. The inside centre, whilst big and strong, doesn't have the
greatest hands at this stage of his career, and may need to consider a move
north to the engine room.
The team played well generally and showed plenty of commitment in the
forwards with the same boys week in and week out doing the hard stuff and
giving the backs some room to move. An enjoyable game.

TSS 41 def GT 22
This game promised a lot, especially from the TSS perspective.
Terrace this year has been unlucky from all accounts whilst TSS has
continued its winning ways.
This game could easily have been won by Terrace, especially in the second
half when leading by 2 points. The kicking game of young GT No.10 Matthew
Lucas (brother of Red's player, Ben) was outstanding. Young Matty
Lucas is sooooo small - makes brother Ben look like Rodney Blake.
GT were aggressive and it was only the superior fitness of TSS that won the
day late in the second half.
No.7 is generally a good runner but as was commented to me just doesn't do
any of the hard work. Unfortunately Evans dropped at least 3 balls in great
attacking position whilst standing in the backs. If he is looking for rep
honours the selectors will be looking for some hard work and not just
opportunistic "runs". Jarod Butler had another quality game but young
Morahan will surely be disappointed in his.
Think it is very easy to be super critical here but as all all must
remember, it is still at schoolboy level, albeit a high level.
At the end of the day, Coach Jones is still left wondering just how well his
charges will compete against BHSH, IGS, and NC - Time will tell!!!!
(The
critical comment here is that WE MUST ALL REMEMBER, IT IS SCHOOLBOY
FOOTBALL, WE SHOULD ALL ENJOY WHAT WE SEE)
