Aussie Schools Team:

2008 NATIONAL SCHOOLBOY TRIALS,  CANBERRA

Update from the Schoolboy trials in Canberra. After leading Qld 2 13 to 10 at half time,  NSW 1 went on to beat Qld 2 by 25 to 10.  At half time in the Qld 1 and NSW 2,  the score was 10 all,  but Qld had secured themselves a red card and a yellow card,  so 13 men (must move to different laws here).  Qld ended up winning the game by 22 to 10 with 14 men,  Jarrad Butler allegedly doing the defensive work of 3 men.  My correspondent finished with,  "Due to frozen fingers,  all texting will now cease".

Further info from Day 1.  Ed Quirk was the recipient of the red card but received no further penalty from the judiciary,  convened that afternoon/night.  Observers I have spoken to from both sides of support say the incident did not seem that serious and the judiciary ruled that the time off the field was enough.

David Feao was the recipient of the yellow card for repeated infringements.

This tournament is played under international laws,  no replacements.  I agree with it in any case,  I could never understand the replacement of a player sent off,  has to be some penalty.

A couple of very sad season ending injuries.  Jordie Tuapou,  Qld 1 vice captain and Tim Southwood,  Qld 2 number 8,  both flew home for surgery.

DAY 2.

Qld 2 defeated Combined States 13 to 12,  or 13 to 11,  have heard two scores.  Qld 1 defeated ACT 33 to 19.  I hear the Qld defence has not been that good,  I also hear that NSW is a big side yet to hit it's straps.

Gun NSW centre Cameron Mitchell has also been sent home with an injury,  another massive blow to the Aussie side if it is season ending.

DAY 3 (added Saturday 12/07/2008)

Qld 1 beat Qld 2 12 to 6,  and that's about all I heard,  except that it was really cold.  Sounds to me like some really ugly rugby may have been played there.  Day off again today,  with the finals being played tomorrow before the boys head home,  Canberra empties of rugby fans and fills up again with overpaid public servants,  and returns to the status of most boring city in Aus,  rated by moi!

DAY 4  Finals

And from Sunny Canberra,  on the final day of schoolboy rugby competition,  Qld 2 defeated ACT by 27 to 12,  and at half time,  Qld 1 lead NSW 1 by 17 to 14.  Qld got the gong by 23 to 21.   Alot of pundits would know that this is coach Ian "Bones" Jones third national title,  claiming the 2006 title with Qld 2,  last eyar,  2007 with Qld 1 and this year with Qld 1.

How many years would go by when you would not see any StJosephs College Hunter Hill or St Ignatius College Riverview players in the Aussie side named below.  Two schools with a view there if I do say so myself.
