ROUND 3 GPS FOOTY, 23/05/2009 TSS 17 df Churchie 7 BSHS 27 df BBC 0 TGS 24 df GT 22 Nudgee 28 df IGS 20 Round 3 saw a look at the Churchie swamplands, and rugby in fatman's paradise. This day should have been all about numbers less than 10, with the 10 not doing too much other than plugging corners. A day for 45mm tags (can you get them that long, if you cant you should be able to, they would be called flesh rippers) and just ripping in and having a go in the slop, plenty of scrums, and plenty of boots on bodies (yep I know not allowed any more, but it should be). However, the young don't see it that way and there was some reasonably attractive rugby played in wet conditions, in fact water polo could have been played on some of the outer ovals, in fact I was worried about people drowning on some fields. I was standing beside someone far more knowledgeable than me, so I will just write what he said. Thought the TSS 13 had a pretty solid game, along with the very good feet of Junior, the Churchie 12, the big 5 from Churchie had a couple of good carries, but thought he had more opportunities at number 8 in the trial against GT as far as ball carrying was concerned. We don't really see too much wet weather so the 9's and 10's don't really know what to do off the boot, but it was sure a day to let the opposition play out of their own 22 off the back of a good kicking game, we don't see those kicking games in Aus so hard to expect it at schools level. TSS deserved to win, with Churchie being far too lateral when they needed to be direct and powerful in the centre. James May at the back showed some glimpses of what he might do, and with space and support would be quite a handful. TSS face all the demons in the next two weeks, and for them the beauty is that it is at home, but Nudgee College and State High in two weeks is not stuff dreams are made of. Anything could happen, and the next two weeks of footy on the coast is certainly where it is at. |
